Update: Here's the actual figure as of 5 December 2018, based on the 1:64 Tomicas alone. This excludes Playsets.
As a businessman and toy collector, I often get asked this question: how much is your net worth in toys?
To begin with, I don't believe being a businessman follows the fact that I can just buy any toy I want. My late father, Wong Chu King, was a very frugal man. It was one of the many values he taught us. He came from humble beginnings so he made sure even if we had a family business growing up, it never got to our heads. He made us earn everything.
One thing he said that I never forgot is: "never spend beyond your means."
This is what probably brought me to being the sporadic toy collector that I am. Even though I can't really stop my urge when it comes to spending on toys, I still don't buy these things in a whim. A leader class figure that costs Php 2,999.00 needs 3-4 trips before I decide!
Now this post will most likely be done in installments as I've only finished counting all my Tomica 1:64 cars and nothing else.
My basis of value is (of course) my acquisition cost. I'll start counting the playsets next in order to add to this value. This value does not include a box of exclusive car box sets that somehow got lost in transit when I transferred my collections to another location.
As of November 2018, the total value of my Tomica 1:64 cars under my possession is only worth Php 40,535 or roughly US$ 768.75 in today's exchange rate (approx. Php ~52.00).
One thing though, I believe it is definitely pale in comparison to other
diecast collectors whose collections are most definitely priceless.
